With the implications of globalization, business models have today become more customer oriented. So, this shift to outsourcing has led many companies to explore different aspects of sending jobs to developing nations in order to discover how to meet their customer’s needs at the lowest prices and thereby increase their profits. Most of the jobs outsourced involve design and development of software in .Net, Java/J2EE, including many ecommerce solutions and web applications. More fascinatingly, nowadays BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) are also helping their global clients in voice and non-voice solutions, customer care, data management, etc. These service providers hire a pool of highly energetic and English speaking young staff. With time, India is becoming the major attraction for outsourcing to European and other foreign IT software companies after its encouraging government policies that favor substantial investment in infrastructure. By outsourcing their IT projects to India, foreign companies experience not only low labor costs and quality services but also help them remain more competitive, concentrate more on core competent areas and enjoy significant tax benefits. Once the IT software companies are relaxed for design and development of the software projects via outsourcing, they canalize their energies towards advertising, marketing, releasing new products, hunting new customers, etc. Though by outsourcing to India, companies experience benefits like saving money, focusing more on their distinctive core competencies, achieving competitive advantage by getting their work done in a faster, more efficient and more unremitting way than their in house team could, but one shouldn’t overlook the drawbacks. Let’s have an idea about them as well. After the jobs are outsourced to another company, managers of the home company are left with much less control over products and services. Though chances are rare as India possesses a great English speaking strength but still there may arise some communication problem between your company and the contractor which may hamper in specifying the exact goals and values of your company. Although disputed but to some extent a true fact that outsourcing results in the loss of in-house and local jobs due to lower costs and enhanced efficiencies of outsourcing, makes you dependant on contractors to survive. Well, everything has got its pros and cons and so with outsourcing. But you can escape from its drawbacks to some extent if outsourcing is done in a smart and effective manner. Avail the services of the contractor with whom you find a comfortable communication and who could be accountable to you. Keep your services and product that you want to outsource, clearly defined to avoid unnecessary confusions and delays. Keep many options of offshore service providers with you to switch to another if required in certain case. |
